Detail

Why it is built this way

01

One pass across the wall

Stud scan, deep scan to 1.5 in, metal to 2.36 in, live AC to 2 in, and a joist mode for ceilings. The LCD shows the full stud width edge to edge with a centre arrow, so you drill the middle instead of the edge.

It calibrates against the wall in front of you, not a lab sample — plaster, tile backer and double drywall all behave differently.

02

The wire alert pays for the tool

One avoided strike on a live circuit covers the price several times over. Hold it wrong and it tells you; hold it still and it recalibrates in two seconds.

Audio and visual alerts both fire, which is what you want when your head is behind a cabinet.

The full story

Five scan modes in one tool: stud scan, deep scan (1.5 in), metal scan, AC live-wire detection, and joist mode. The screen shows the full stud edge-to-edge so you hit the center, not the edge.

Auto-calibrates against the wall you are actually scanning, not a lab wall. Grip it wrong and it tells you; hold it still and it recalibrates in two seconds.

The AC detection is the feature that pays for the tool — one avoided wire strike covers it several times over.
